what happened
Ondas (ONDS), a counter-drone technology developer, drew attention on Monday after announcing a partnership with Palantir Technologies (PLTR). According to Stocktwits, the companies have launched Regna AI, a standalone private business serving government and corporate defense customers. The new company will create tailored AI models for missions involving drones, surveillance balloons, ground vehicles and unmanned vessels.
Regna AI’s platform is intended for intelligence collection, threat evaluation and mission planning, while human personnel will retain responsibility for authorizing decisions. Its focus will be sovereign AI, allowing governments to keep control of their models, sensitive data and computing infrastructure. Ondas CEO Eric Brock said the venture could become an important tool for defense organizations in the U.S. and allied countries, combining open-weight models, customer-owned mission data and Palantir’s operational platform.
The initiative extends the Ondas-Palantir collaboration with World View. The partners previously introduced SkyWeaver, a system using AI to process surveillance information in a way suited to military operations, including locations with limited connectivity. Regna AI will initially target military surveillance, with plans to expand into security, critical infrastructure and industrial activity. At the time of writing, Ondas shares were up around 1% and on course to end a four-session decline, while Palantir shares were down about 1% after five winning sessions.
The launch follows a series of defense orders for Ondas. Last week, the company announced a $56 million contract to provide equipment for safely arming and activating weapons in a European military drone program. Two days later, it disclosed more than $165 million in new orders received between mid-August and October 1. New orders since June 30 exceeded $270 million, while backlog stood at about $613 million at the end of June. Stocktwits said retail sentiment toward ONDS shifted from “bullish” to “neutral” over 24 hours amid high message volume; the shares are down around 38% so far this year.
why it matters
Regna AI places Ondas’ counter-drone capabilities alongside Palantir’s software in the defense AI market. The announcement adds a strategic partnership to Ondas’ recent order growth and reported backlog.
