CFTC data: fund positions in NYMEX natural gas and gasoline as of October 13

what happened

A weekly CFTC positioning report for October 13, 2026, passed on by ru.tradingview.com, shows the structure of NYMEX energy markets. Open interest in natural gas stood at 1,741,163 contracts. Managed money held 227,211 long and 353,692 short positions, while its short positions dropped by 9,603 contracts compared with October 6.

In RBOB gasoline, open interest was 340,268 contracts, down 8,432 from a week earlier. NY Harbor ULSD open interest was 268,475 contracts. In NYMEX precious metals, palladium open interest was 23,173 contracts and platinum was 67,866.

why it matters

The report shows how positions are distributed, not where prices are going. For gas, the key signal is the net short tilt of funds, which matters when traders gauge sentiment around Henry Hub. Weekly CFTC data gives traders useful background but rarely moves prices on its own.
