Vaar Energi lifts payouts as third-quarter operating profit doubles on strong prices

Norwegian producer Vaar Energi increased its cash dividend for the second quarter in a row. According to Reuters, its July-September EBIT reached $2.21 billion, compared with $1.1 billion a year earlier. The figure came in slightly below the $2.26 billion average forecast from a ten-analyst poll that the company compiled itself.

Chief executive Nick Walker credited the result to high realised prices for oil and gas, saying the company was pleased with its performance. Vaar plans to pay $400 million in each of the third and fourth quarters of 2026, including an extraordinary component, up from $350 million in the second quarter and $300 million in the first.

Vaar kept its long-term production target at 450,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day and its 2026 capital spending guidance at $2.5 billion to $2.7 billion. However, on October 12 it said full-year output would land at the low end of its earlier 390,000 to 410,000 boepd range because of operational problems at several fields.

For energy investors, the report shows that high commodity prices are still flowing directly into producers' cash flow. The bigger payout signals management's confidence in that cash flow, while output guidance near the bottom of the range highlights operational risk that could limit the benefit of strong prices.
