Imperial Oil's third-quarter net income rises to C$2.45 billion on higher prices

Canadian oil producer Imperial Oil published its third-quarter 2026 results, as reported by TradingView. Net income reached C$2,454 million, or $5.11 per diluted share, compared with C$539 million, or $1.07 per share, a year earlier. The company attributed the increase mainly to higher commodity prices and stronger downstream volumes.

Upstream output averaged 418,000 gross oil-equivalent barrels per day, down from 462,000 a year earlier, mainly because of lower production at Kearl. Refinery capacity utilization fell to 88 percent from 98 percent. Cash flow from operating activities rose to C$3,228 million.

Imperial returned C$2,506 million to shareholders, including C$420 million in dividends and C$2,086 million in share repurchases. The board declared a fourth-quarter dividend of 87 cents per share, and the company expects to finish its accelerated buyback before year end.

why it matters

Two points stand out for markets. Higher oil prices and solid refining margins boosted earnings, and a large share of that cash is going back to investors. Lower output and refinery downtime, however, show that operational issues have not fully cleared, and recovery depends on work at the Strathcona and Sarnia refineries.
