what happened
HDFC Bank, India's largest private sector lender, has released its results for the second quarter of FY27, according to TradingView. Standalone net profit climbed 5.2% year on year to Rs.19,609.96 crore, up from Rs.18,641.28 crore a year earlier. Compared with the June 2026 quarter, profit advanced 2.83% from Rs.19,069.72 crore.
Net interest income rose 9.72% to Rs.34,619.18 crore, against Rs.31,551.50 crore a year ago. Total interest earned for the period reached Rs.83,426.60 crore. The net interest margin came in at 3.16% of total assets and 3.32% of interest-earning assets.
Asset quality improved as the gross non-performing asset ratio fell to 1.11% of gross advances at September 30, 2026, down from 1.17% in the previous quarter and 1.24% a year earlier. The net non-performing asset ratio held steady at 0.37%. The results are also expected to be the final report under managing director and CEO Sashidhar Jagdishan, whose term ends on October 26, with Anup Bagchi set to take over.
why it matters
For investors, the combination of faster interest income growth and a lower share of bad loans tends to support sentiment toward a bank during a leadership change. A steady net bad-loan ratio and higher NII point to a resilient core business, though the report offers no guidance for coming quarters.
