Community Health Systems reports third-quarter loss and revenue decline

Community Health Systems reported a net loss attributable to stockholders of $86 million, or $0.63 per diluted share, for the quarter ended September 30, 2026. Adjusted EBITDA fell to $280 million from $376 million a year earlier. On a same-store basis, admissions rose 2.2% and adjusted admissions rose 3.6%. Net cash provided by operating activities was $155 million, compared with $70 million in the same quarter of 2025.

Chief executive Kevin J. Hammons said that volume trends and cash flow improved sequentially, but payor mix and acuity did not develop as expected amid a challenging macro environment.
