CCC Intelligent Solutions shares rise on potential takeover report

Shares of CCC Intelligent Solutions moved higher Monday after a report said Elliott Investment Management and private-equity firm GTCR were discussing a potential acquisition of the auto-insurance software provider. Bloomberg, citing sources who asked not to be identified, reported that the parties could announce an agreement as soon as next week.

The discussions may still end without a transaction, the timetable could change, and another bidder could enter the process, the sources said. CCC Intelligent Solutions rose 11% to $7.78 in Monday’s premarket trading. Dow Jones Market Data indicated that the shares were on course for their highest closing level since Jan. 28.

CCC Intelligent Solutions operates cloud software connecting automakers, insurers and auto-body repair shops across the U.S. and China. It has applied artificial intelligence to automate vehicle-damage estimates, handle claims workflows and simplify parts ordering. The stock had declined 16% over the previous 12 months as investors continued to worry that AI could undermine software providers.

Dow Jones Newswires noted that this was not the first takeover report involving CCC Intelligent Solutions. In July, the shares advanced after Reuters reported that the company was considering a possible sale and had contacted potential buyers, including private-equity firms. Analysts at the time pointed to the company’s valuation, broad network and position in insurance technology as reasons a buyer could offer a premium.
